It’s been a couple of months since we all saw Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer debut Peter’s New Iron Spider legs. Although we have all seen the Iron Spider legs before, this is perhaps the first time we see Peter implement this technology on his suit by himself. With no Iron Man or Shield giving him advanced gadgets and knowledge to upgrade his suit. How did Peter create this fantastic tech considering his financial situation without support from billionaires and companies? In this blog post, we have 5 different theories on how Peter made his New Iron Spider Legs.
1. Doctor Octavius Prosthetic Arms
We must start with the first theory that comes to mind, and it’s Otto Octavius’s neural interface work. As we see in the first game, Otto is developing a prosthesis that can help billions. However, his mind was changed forever due to the latter’s impatience and the neural interface not being adequately finished. This is something that Parker feels guilty about and it’s because he was one of the scientists that worked with him. Perhaps Peter’s belief in Otto’s work and how it may impact others may drive him to perfect the prosthesis. As a result, the Iron Spider legs can be a sweet nod to the man he admired so deeply.
2. Nanotechnology
Although we haven’t seen Tony Stark in Insomniac’s universe, we know he, The Avengers, and Shield exist. As such, it is possible that Shield and Tony Stark may have nanotechnology that Peter may use to create the Iron Spider Legs. Knowing that Insomniac has taken inspiration from multiple Spider-Man movies and series it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Peter grasp this intuitive technology from Tony. Another theory involving nanotechnology is presented in Miles Morales’s prequel novel: Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In this fantastic novel, we see that Vulture became a living bioweapon thanks to nanotechnology. Since Peter and Miles were the ones to confront Vulture, perhaps with the remaining Nanotech, they together could create Peter’s new Iron Spider Arms. This theory will determine that together Miles and Peter may make one of the most powerful duos in all marvel, with both intellect and power.
3. Programmable Matter
In Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Phin uses Programmable Matter as the Tinkerer to sabotage and fight Roxxon. The full extent of her technology made her a formidable match for Miles. This is due to the tech being able to shift its mass and shape to what the user desired. The Tinkerer used it to create high-powered boots, swords, laser projectiles, death wheels, and cables to attach to buildings. Throughout the game, Miles collects the tech and uses it to create a programmable matter suit that uses iron spider arms in specific finishers.
With this in mind, it could be possible that Peter experimented with Programmable Matter to upgrade his suit. Programmable Matter’s core has a distinctive light that could be purple or red that did not show in the trailer. However, this lack of light could mean that if Peter used this tech, his version may be above or below Phin’s craft.
4. Project Olympus
In the City That Never Sleeps DLC, we see HammerHead transform his body into a machine with the help of Project Olympus. As Mary Jane puts it, Project Olympus is a bio enhancement technology that transforms people into indestructible super soldiers. As a result, HammerHead became a machine like a monstrosity capable of surviving being crashed by a helicopter and capable of matching Spiderman’s strength. All of these new powers and his durable head made him almost indestructible. It may be possible that Peter’s tinkering with these resources may create the Iron Spiders’ impressive legs. With the potential to be virtually invulnerable and match superhuman strength, the iron Spider legs can be a villain’s worst nightmare. Supposing this powerful resource makes the Iron Spider Legs, it could be fun watching Sable’s reaction once she realized why some tech was missing.
5. All of the Above
Last but not least, the answer may be a combination of all the theories mentioned. Peter Parker has always been crafty and creative with his limited budget. As such it isn’t surprising if the Iron Spider Legs is a combination of all the gadgets he has collected over the years. Peter could use nanotechnology to hide the Iron Spider Legs and Phin’s Programmable Matter may give Peter’s new arsenal more versatility in battle. Project Olympus may enhance the Iron Spider Legs’ durability and strength beyond Venom or Rhino. With a combination of these resources, Peter’s Iron Spider legs should be more powerful than most foes he faces.
Conclusion
Spider-Man’s New Iron Spider Legs adds a layer of versatility and unpredictability to his unique fighting skills. It lets him use the arms as offense or defense and combined with Spider-Man’s arachnid powers he can use them in many different ways. However, if the Iron Spider Arms are made of one of these materials they would be even more useful due to the different properties each material possesses. With Doctor Octavius’ Neural interface he would have reaction speeds up to one nanosecond.
Nanotechnology may help Peter conceal and store the arms within his advanced suit. With Programmable Matter, he could even expand more of the Iron Spider Legs’ versatility, possibly even changing its density and shape. On the other hand, Project Olympus durability and strength may help Spider-Man fend off energy-based attacks as well as give him a hand against stronger opponents. Finally, combining all of the above materials may result in the Iron Spider Legs being something completely new to the fans. However, like GameRant’s article states Insomniac must be careful of not making them too powerful.
